| The Village of Santa Elena, Yucatan, Mexico. The Flycatcher Inn B&B is located 15 minutes southeast of Uxmal, on the Ruta Puuc Route of Mayan ruins. We are in the small and quiet central Yucatan village of Santa Elena, southwest of Merida and Ticul, an ideal base for exploring the region. Stevens and Catherwood stayed for extended periods of time in this village while "rediscovering" the ruins of Uxmal, Kabah, Sayil, and Labnah, among others, and were housed in what is now the small museum attached to the church. Many of the ceremonies and events they saw then have changed very little, right down to the traditional foods. Click here for full details on these sights, activities, culture, history and more. |

| This old village house is constructed in the mamposteria style: built of rocks covered with cement, the same way the ruins were built. On most days the resident elderly lady can be seen just inside the door, operating her old singer sewing machine by foot peddle. |
