                      TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION AND DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Flycatcher Inn is located just off Highway 261 in the Village of Santa Elena,
15 minutes drive south of the ruins of Uxmal.

    BUS:

We do not believe bus is the best way to see our area.  Bus schedules are quite complicated
and change frequently.  Bus service is available, but you will spend a lot of time waiting for
connections, and several areas of interest are not available by bus/taxi-combi.

There is a bus that stops in Santa Elena near our Inn, and tours the Ruta Puuc Route of 4 sites.
Your time is quite limited (about 3.5 hours total, approx 20-30 pesos), and does not include the
Loltun Caves, the old sugarcane plantation of Tabi, nor the market towns of Oxkutzcab or Ticul
which would conclude the "loop".  This is an all day trip, by car, for most people.

    CAR RENTAL:

We strongly recommend renting a car.  Car rental may be done in Cancun (where most people
come in; cheapest price).  Cars may also be rented in Merida at a reasonable rate, even if you come
in through Cancun, and then returned there, to continue by bus if you wish.  We do not recommend
any particular car rental company as there are dozens and we do not know any of them personally.

    APPROXIMATE DRIVING TIMES:

Driving time from Cancun, via Merida, to Santa Elena is approximately 5 to 5.5 hours.

Driving time from Chichen Itza/Vallodolid to Santa Elena is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours via
Merida and down Highway 261, or via Highway 18 down passing by Mayapan, Mani, to Ticul.

Driving time from Tulum to Santa Elena, going south to Felipe Carrillo Puerto and across
the peninsula on Highway 184 through Tekax and Ticul, is about 4 hours.

Driving time from Playa del Carmen to Santa Elena is about 4.5 hours.  This road is good
and not heavily travelled past Felipe Carrillo to Ticul, Highway 184.

Driving time from Palenque, via Campeche/Escarcega, to Santa Elena is approximately 6 hours.

Driving time from the southern edge of Merida to Santa Elena is about 50 minutes.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO FLYCATCHER INN  (For AUTO FUEL and CASH see Ticul Below):

    1 meter = 1.0936 yards or 3.28 feet;   1 kilometer = .6214 mile

FROM CAMPECHE OR KABAH  (see map of Santa Elena above):
Coming north from Campeche or Kabah, on Highway 261, as you approach Santa Elena you
will pass the restaurant El Chac Mol on your right, and 100 meters/330 feet beyond, our B&B
sign on your left.  Turn left onto the dirt lane, and you will see another B&B sign in front of the
    entry gates - 100 meters/330 feet up.

FROM UXMAL  (see map of Santa Elena above):
Coming south from Uxmal (13 kilometers/8 miles/15 minutes) on Highway 261, do NOT enter
Santa Elena as you approach it, but continue on Highway 261 for about 1 kilometer/.6 mile.  On
your right  you will see a green federal highway sign and just beyond it, our B&B sign. Turn right
onto the dirt lane, and you will see another B&B sign in front of the entry gates - 100 meters/330
    feet up.

FROM TICUL  (see map of Ticul above):
Coming from Ticul, the easiest approach is as follows:  entering Santa Elena, you will come to a
Y shaped fork in the road.  Go straight and up the hill, then down into the village center, where
you will see the arched "palacio" building.  Follow the street curving to your LEFT;  this is Calle
20, and the large Church will be on your left on the hill.  Proceed on this street for 4 blocks until
you come to the main Highway 261, where you will see our B&B sign.  Cross the highway and
follow the dirt lane for 100 meters/330 feet where you will see another B&B sign in front of the
    entry gates.

TICUL INFO (see map of Ticul above):
Getting in and out of Ticul:  the street that leads to Santa Elena is Calle 34.  If you are coming in
from Oxkutzcab, turn left onto 27th (there are signs) - follow it until you see a sign for Santa Elena,
where you will turn left onto 34th.  34th becomes the road to Santa Elena.  If you are coming in from
Mani, via Chapab and Mama, follow 19th (west) and turn left onto 34th.  If you are coming in via
Dzan, follow 25th (which you will probably be on) passing the huge Catholic church on your left,
continuing and turning left onto 34th.

The closest AUTO FUEL station is located in Ticul, on 23rd towards Merida. To get to Santa Elena
from the auto fuel/gas station in Ticul, turn left onto 23rd, then turn right onto 34th.

For CASH, the closest ATM (Automated Teller Machine) is located in Banamex Bank in Ticul,
on the central park, just off 25th (the huge Catholic Church is here), on 26th.  To get to the village
from the bank, turn right onto 25th and head west, then turn left onto 34th.

34th is the magic street leading you out of Ticul and on to Santa Elena, 13 kilometers/8 miles.
